Events During the Life and Times of Abraham Lincoln

This section lists the major events that took place during Lincoln's life:
  • The Civil War -- Lincoln's Presidency overlapped with the Civil War, a bloody conflict between the Union and the secessionist Confederate States. The Confederate states began seceding just as Lincoln first took office, and their rebellion was not quelled until Lincoln's second term as president. It is not surprising therefore that many of the defining moments in Lincoln's life took place in the context of the Civil War: the Gettysburg Address, the Emancipation Proclamation, and finally, just as the war was ended, his assassination at the hands of John Wilkes Booth.

  • Soon to be Added: The Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, Fort Sumter, the Presidential Election Campaign
